The sequence beginning with codon 2 in exon 1 and spanning to the first 19 bp in intron 1 (through codon 86) was deleted and replaced with an IRES BetaGal-PolyA/MC1neo-PolyA cassette. The deleted sequence encoded the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains. Southern blot confirmed homologous recombination and Northern blot of lungs indicated no transcript was present in mutants. ELISA showed at least 50% decreases in IgM and IgG levels in serum of mutant mice. (J:71301)
