A neomycin resistance gene replaced 1.5 exons which encoded amino acids 64-121. This rendered the gene product enzymatically nonfunctional. Lack of gene transcription was demonstrated by Northern blot analysis and absence of protein was confirmed by Western blot. (J:42595)
