A portion of exon 2 encoding amino acids 1 through 346 was replaced with a cassette containing lacZ and neo genes by homologous recombination. Northern blot analyses of retina confirmed the absence of RNA in homozygous mutant mice. The expression pattern of lacZ was similar to that of the endogenous gene. (J:90294, J:128358)
