A neomycin cassette was inserted into exon 2 by homologous recombination, precluding the translation of any endogenous sequence other than that encoding the first 15 amino acids of the protein. The absence of endogenous transcript was indicated by Northern blot analysis of mutant embryos. (J:88167)
