The first 86 bp of the exon 1 coding region were replaced when cassettes encoding lacZ and neo were inserted at the start codon. The remaining sequence of exon 1 and downstream exons were left intact. No protein was detected in homozygous mutant retinal tissue by immunofluorescence. lacZ expression was visualized via beta-gal staining. (J:88182)
