Sequence encoding the carboxyl cysteine-rich domain was disrupted by a secretory gene trap vector containing a Beta-geo cassette. The insertion putatively interferes with proper protein folding resulting in the retention and subsequent degradation of the mutant protein in the enodplasmic reticulum. (J:87592)
