A 3' portion of exon 2 was replaced with a neomycin selection cassette inserted by homologous recombination. Normal protein was undetected by Western blot and immunofluorescence analyses of homozygous mutant mice, however a polypeptide larger than that produced by the endogenous locus was detected at levels less than 1.2% those of wild-type.
