A genomic fragment encompassing exons 1 and 2 was replaced with a cassette containing nls-lacZ and PGK-neo. The deleted sequence encoded the first 185 amino acids of the protein. Heterozygous mutant mice were shown to have approximately half as much protein as wild-type mice by Western blot analysis. (J:86762)
