A 98bp segment from the protein coding region was replaced with an IRES-lacZ reporter and a neomycin resistance cassette. This is predicted to delete amino acid residues 46-78 which includes the PAPS5'-phosphate binding site in the encoded protein. RT-PCR failed to detect any mRNA transcript. (J:86759, J:95268)
