Exons encoding the pore region, 2 transmembrane domains, and the cyclic nucleotide-binding region were replaced with a cassette containing tau-lacZ. A floxed region included in the targeting vector containing a partially deleted thymidine kinase gene and a neomycin resistant gene was excised via cre mediated recombination. Transcript was undetected by in situ hybridization of homozygous mutant olfactory receptor neurons. (J:83225)
