Exons 2 through 5 were replaced with a cassette containing tau-lacZ and neo. The deleted region included the start codon, and sequence encoding the signal peptide and first two Ig domains. Neither transcript nor protein was detected by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis of homozygous mutant mice. Immunolabeling of sciatic nerve tissue showed no specific staining. (J:85502)
