A region of the gene comprising 281 nucleotides and including the transcription start site and signal sequence was replaced by lacZ and neomycin resistance genes. LacZ expression under the control of the endogenous gene promoter was confirmed immunohistochemically and by in situ hybridization. (J:67371)
