Exons 15 through 18 were replaced with an hprt cassette via homologous recombination. Both alpha 1 transcript and protein levels were reduced by ~40% in heterozygous mutant hearts. An aberrant alpha 1 transcript was detected but was not expected to produce a functional protein. (J:55191)
