A 3.8 kb fragment containing exon 2 was replaced with a neomycin selection cassette inserted by homologous recombination. The deleted region encoded most of the precursor region, the proteolytic processing site, and two thrids of the mature region. RT-PCR analysis indicated an absence of normal transcript in homozygous mutant mice. (J:75187)
