A 2 kb region of the gene, which includes part of exon 2 and exon 3 and corresponds to the zinc finger coding region, was replaced with an in-frame lacZ sequence and PGK-neo cassette. The resulting targeted allele is expected to produce a fusion protein composed of the first 120 amino acids from Snai2 and beta-galactosidase. Whole mount in situ hybridization analysis of mutant embryos showed that the lacZ expression pattern followed that of endogenous Snai2. (J:48521)
