The endogenous gene was disrupted by the insertion of a cassette containing human vimetin (VIM) sequence followed by growth hormone sequence and PGK-neo. Though the VIM sequence was inserted at the endogenous start codon, the transgene was not expressed. Northern and Western blot analyses indicated an absence of both endogenous transcript and protein in homozygous mutant mice. (J:25763)
