Sequence encompassing the proximal promoter and exons 1 and 2 was replaced by a neomycin selection inserted by homologous recombination. The deleted region included transcriptional and translational start sites and encoded amino acids essential for transmembrane topology. RT-PCR analysis of ovary and brain tissue indicated an absence of transcript in homozygous mutant mice. (J:51076)
