Exon 2 was flanked by loxP sites and excised in vitro by the transient expression of cre recombinase. The deletion of exon 2 results in a frameshift mutation affecting sequence downstream of exon 1. An absence of normal protein in homozygous mutant mice was confirmed by Western blot analysis. (J:79714)
