Exon 2 was replaced by a neo cassette inserted by homologous recombination. RT-PCR analysis identified shortened transcript in homozygous mutant mice, lacking the targeted region, which encoded the first two alpha helices (residues 83 through 145) of the homeodomain. A loss of immunoreactivity was observed in the homozygous mutant retina. (J:74240)
