Expression of the endogenous gene was reduced by the deletion of a 2.7 kb enhancer region. The targeting vector contained a floxed hygromycin cassette, which was excised in vitro via the expression of cre recombinase. In situ hybridization showed normal expression in early gastrulation stages, with attenuated expression begining during the early somite stages. Robust expression was observed in the left lateral plate mesoderm. (J:79098)
