The gene was disrupted by replacement of a 1 kb region including part of exon 5 and exon 6 with a neomycin resistance cassette via homologous recombination. The targeted mutation results in deletion of sequences encoding a leucine zipper motif, which is required for interaction with renin. Homozygous mutant animals did not express gene transcripts as determined by Northern blot analysis of kidney RNA. (J:62268)
