Exon 8 was flanked by a single loxP site in intron 7 and a floxed neo cassette in intron 8. The presence of the neo cassette was found to interfere with normal splicing, resulting in lethality of homozygous embryos. Mice carrying this allele were bred with mice expressing cre recombinase via the EIIa promoter to excise either the neo cassette or the neo cassette and exon 8 together. (J:75140)
