The gene was tagged by insertion of an IRES-lacZ-floxed neo cassette 3' to the stop codon. Transient expression of cre recombinase in correctly targeted ES cells removed the floxed neo cassette prior to blastocyst injection. Whole-mount histochemical analysis and in situ hybridization confirmed that the expression pattern of the tagged gene in the olfactory sensory neurons is similar to that of wild-type. (J:64893)
