The neo gene was inserted in the opposite orientation via homologous recombination at a splice junction between intron 8 and exon 9a, which also deletes 32 bp of endogenous DNA. Northern blot of E8.5 embryos using probes to exon 9a and exon 9d did not detect gene transcripts in homozygous mutants. (J:44952)
