Human E2F1 cDNA was adjoined to the bovine keratin 5 promoter, active in the basal cell compartment of stratified squamous epithelia. Expression of the human transgene was detected in basal keratinocytes by Northern blot analysis. Western blot analysis showed that the level of transgenic protein was 80 fold greater than that of the endogenous protein. (J:46535)
