The region encoding the mature peptide was deleted by the insertion of a neomycin selection cassette. The absence of transcript in homozygous mutant mice was demonstrated by RNAse protection and in situ hybridization. Western blot analysis of brain tissue confirmed the lack of protein. (J:78199)
