Sequence analysis of cloned RT-PCR products comprising the entire coding region of the agouti locus showed an in-frame deletion of 9 nucleotides corresponding to codons 14-16. This mutation is predicted to delete a phenylalanine, a leucine and a cysteine residue from the encoded protein. Wild-type levels of transcript were detected by northern blot analysis. (J:75206)
