The gene was disrupted by insertion of a PGK-neo cassette into exon 5 via homologous recombination. Absence of gene expression was confirmed by Western blot analysis of brain proteins from 26-day-old homozygous mutant animals. Immunohistochemical analysis of sciatic and optic nerve sections from 8-week-old homozygous mutants also failed to detect protein. (J:19475)
