The gene was disrupted by insertion of a neomycin resistance cassette into exon 1 via homologous recombination. In situ hybridization of brain sections using an antisense RNA probe to the gene verified the absence of gene expression in homozygous mutant animals. Galactosyl transferase assays of brain samples from homozygous mutant animals did not detect enzymatic activity. (J:36558)
