The insertion of a neomycin selection cassette disrupted exon 3. RT-PCR and sequence analysis of mutant mice revealed that the insertion of the neo cassette resulted in exon skipping, producing a transcript in which exons 2 and 4 are joined. While, encoded protein was undetected in homozygous mutant mice via Western blot analysis, immunofluorescence analysis showed immunoreactivity in the greater epithelial ridge and in isolated spots in the tectorial membrane.
