Exons 2 through 12 were replaced with a neomycin selection cassette. The deleted region included the translational start site and the basic helix-loop-helix and PAS domains. Normal protein was undetected in homozygous mutant mice by immunohistochemical staining of superchiasmatic nuclei over a 24 hour period. (J:69626)
