Exon 2 of the gene was replaced with a neomycin resistance cassette via homologous recombination. Northern blot analysis confirmed the absence of mRNA transcripts from testis, spleen, and intestine of homozygous mutant animals, and immunohistochemical analysis of testes sections demonstrated the absence of protein product.
