Portions of exons 3 and 4 were replaced with a neomycin selection cassette, which introduced stop codons into all three reading frames. The deleted region encoded the translational start site, leader sequence, and the ligand-binding immunoglobulin domain 1. The splice sites on the 5' and 3' terminals of exons 3 and 4, respectively, were left intact. (J:37451)
