A portion of exon 1 and all of exon 2 were replaced with a construct containing both neo and lacZ genes. Western analysis showed an absence of the endogenous protein in extracts from homozygous mutant embyros. Expression of the inserted lacZ gene was found to be identical to the expression of the endogenous gene. (J:58466)
