A 2.2 kb region containing exon 8 and a splice acceptor sequence of intron 7 was replaced with a neomycin resistance gene via homologous recombination resulting in specific disruption of the zeta isoform while preserving the eta isoform. Absence of expression from the zeta isoform in homozygous mutants was confirmed by RNase protection assay. Interestingly, eta isoform expression in homozygous mutants increased to a level similar to wild-type zeta expression. (J:15271)
