A neomycin resistance cassette was inserted into intron 1 via homologous recombination and results in a normal protein product. Western blot of brain homogenates from homozygous mutant animals verified the presence of protein expression and enzyme assays demonstrated that the phospholipid- and syntaxin-binding ability of the protein remained intact.
