A promoterless lacZ-neo construct was used to disrupt exon 1, which is essential for function. Northern blot analysis using a probe for exon 1 revealed an absence of normal transcript in homozygous mutant embryos, however, lacZ was expressed from the endogenous promoter. (J:37459)
