ES cells were transfected with a construct in which a LoxP site was inserted just upstream of exon 11 and a floxed neomycin-thymidine-kinase region inserted downstream. The transient expression of Cre-recombinase resulted in the excision of the selection genes and preservation of the exon 11 flanked by loxP sites. Exon 11 encodes a portion of the transmembrane domain IV and is included in all known splice variants. (J:76715)
