A cassette containing lacZ and neo was replaced most of the coding region and 5.5 kb of 3' flanking sequence. While expression of lacZ was observed in nasal and colonic epithelia, it was unobserved in the liver, pancreas, stomach, and small intestines. This lack of expression was attributed to the deletion of cis regulatory elements located in the 3' flanking region of the endogenous gene. (J:17631, J:48310)
