A lacZ gene followed by a neomycin resistance cassette was fused in frame in exon 1 of the gene. RT-PCR analysis on brain RNA derived from homozygous mice demonstrated that no detectable transcript was produced from this allele. Western blot analysis on lysates derived from neonatal brain confirmed that no GAD1 protein is expressed from this allele. (J:40978)
