A neomycin selection cassette was inserted into the coding region of the gene. RNAse protection assays on RNA derived from various tissues of homozygous mice demonstrated that no detectable transcript was produced from this allele. A specific agonist of the encoded receptor failed to elicit responses in isolated ileum from homozygous mice, confirming that no functional protein is produced from this allele. (J:63271)
