A neomycin resistance cassette replaced a NcoI genomic fragment in exon 2 that contained sequences encoding the signal peptide and the heptad repeat sequences. RT-PCR analysis demonstrated the presence of a shorter aberrant transcript in homozygous mice, but no protein was detectable by Western blot analysis in pooled extracts of cerebellum, lung and thymus.
