Exons 1 and 2, which encode the initiation codon and regions of the gene encoding six of the seven transmembrane-spanning domains and putative extracellular loops, were replaced by a neomycin resistance gene. Northern blot analysis of RNA from thymus and spleen of homozygous mutant neonates using cDNA probes specific for this gene verified the loss of expression. (J:44108)
