A lacZ gene, followed by a neomycin selection cassette, was inserted in-frame after the sixth codon. Western blot analysis demonstrated that no GJA8 protein is detectable in lens homogenates derived from homozygous mice. Beta-galactosidase is expressed from this allele under the control of the endogenous promoter. (J:73651)
