Exon 1 and 1.7 kb upstream of exon 1 were replaced with a neo-derived targeting vector by homologous recombination. Northern blot analysis of homozygous embryos demonstrated that no detectable transcript was expressed. Western blot on extracts derived from brain of homozygous animals did not detect any protein product. (J:60149)
