Arose spontaneously in a stock derived from an irradiated founder in Germany in 1981. Molecular analysis of the coding region in nackt mice revealed a 118 bp deletion involving the end of exon 6 and almost all of exon 7. Western analysis of skin from homozygous mutant mice indicated that no stable protein is produced. (J:69924, J:108004)
