Exons 1 through 4 were replaced with a cassette containing nuclear lacZ and neo. Encoded protein was undetectable in brain homogenates from homozygous mutant mice via Western blot analysis. Beta-galactosidase expression was used to observe the activity of the endogenous promoter. (J:53059)
