A neomycin resistance cassette replaced a part of the first coding exon comprising the 5' untranslated region and the first 164 amino acids of the protein. In situ hybridization of sagittal and coronal sections of the brain using an antisense probe corresponding to the first coding exon of the targeted gene showed no detectable mRNA expression in homozygous mutant mice.
