A neomycin resistance gene was inserted into exon 2, which encodes the mature peptide. RT-PCR analysis on RNA derived from homozygous embryos demonstrated that no detectable transcript was produced from this allele. Enzyme immunoassay tests confirmed that no active peptide was present in lung extracts of homozygous mice. (J:17694)
