A neomycin cassette was inserted into exon 8, which encodes the common receptor region B. This disruption is predicted to prevent the synthesis of all Rara isoforms. RNAase protection analysis of homozygous E13.5 embryos failed to detect wild type RNA transcripts and immunoblot analysis failed to detect protein in in extracts from homozygous E13.5 embryos.
